April 3, 2012
Dear Room 16 Parents/ Guardians,
April has arrived. We have been working hard on many subjects in Room 16.
Language Arts: We have started our unit on Island of the Blue Dolphins. Our literature circles are coming to an end, and the students will be making a group project to share with the class on their book. Many thanks to the parents who have been able to join us during our “book clubs.” The students and I have enjoyed your company.
Writer’s Workshop: We have been writing poems. We are working on a poetry booklet. The students are using their creativity and figurative language in their poetry.
Math: We have just finished a unit on fractions, and are learning about decimals. We have been spending some time working on probability and graphing. I would like to thanks the volunteers that came in to help us on our probability stations day. The students had a lot of fun and learned a lot during our rotations.
Social Studies: We are finishing up our Gold Rush Simulation, and looking forward to our Upcoming Gold Rush Day! Thank you in advance to our volunteers and for the donations for the Gold Rush Lunch. After that, we will discuss why people came to California.
Science: We have started our unit on Magnetism and Electricity. The students have been investigating magnets and the force. Next, we will begin building circuits.
P.E.: On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the students have been finishing up their fitness assessments. For more information on P.E., feel free to check the P.E. newsletter on the Dilworth website staff page.
