Dear Room 16 Parents/ Guardians,
The school year is off to a great start and it’s hard to believe it is already October! We have been working on many things in Room 16.
Language Arts: We are finishing up our unit on Journeys. We have been working on the reading strategies: summarizing, inference, and organization. We will soon begin a literature unit on the book In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson.
Math: We are currently working on expressions, inequalities, and equations. Shortly, we will be studying multiplication and then division.
Social Studies: We are have just finished our unit on California’s Geography. We are about to begin studying California’s Native Americans.
Science: We are continuing our unit on Environments. This week, we examined owl pellets to determine what the owls eat. After conferences, we will discuss food chains and food webs. Just a heads up, we will be taking our Science test and the Science Notebook will be due on October 27th.
P.E.: The students have been studying the muscles of the body. Please remember that P.E. is on Wednesdays and Thursdays so students have good shoes for moving around.
Please join our google group! I have started a google group to help with parent communication. If I had your email from back to school night, I sent you an invitation to join our group. If you have not received the invitation, please visit my blog and click the link to join our group. The group is a private group, so when you ask to join it will send me a request to approve you.
Some Up Coming Events:
• Conferences started this week. They are from October 6th to October 14th. Please remember that school will be out at 1:00 p.m. for those days. Your student is welcome to attend the conference with you. I have enjoyed meeting with some of you already, and look forward to the rest of conferences.
• October 18th is student picture day.
• October 28th we will have a Halloween Parade and party. Information on the party will follow, as we get closer to the event.
• October 31st is a learning day. There is no school that day.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at school or via e-mail, at horner_sabrina@cusdk8.org. I look forward to seeing you at conferences.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Horner
