May Newsletter
May 11, 2011
Dear Room 16 Parents/ Guardians,
It is hard to believe we are getting so close to the end of the school year. We have been working very hard in Room 16.
Language Arts: We are continuing to read, Island of the Blue Dolphins. We are working in our groups and discussing the book.
Writer’s Workshop: We have been busy writing many different poems. We are creating a poetry booklet. We have been typing up our poetry in the Computer Lab.
Math: We are starting our eleventh unit. This week we are finishing our unit on Probability. Next, we will continue on to more Geometry.
Social Studies: The class is learning about how California became a state and California’s government. We will be having a Social Studies test on Friday, May 20th.
Science: We are continuing our unit on Environments. The students have been observing our aquariums with gold fish and snails. We are studying food chains and food webs. We will soon begin an experiment with Brine Shrimp to learn about the range of tolerance. They notebooks and Science test will be on May 24th.
Music: In Music, the students are composing and improvising music using poetry and the pentatonic (5 note) scale.
Open House: Open House is May 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We hope you can stop by and visit our room during this time.
Thank you very much for all of the special events and activities that have been going on this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. They are very thoughtful and kind.
