April Newsletter

April 6, 2011

Dear Room 16 Parents/ Guardians,

Last week, we enjoyed the sunshine and our trip to Hidden Villa where we learned about farms and environments. We have been working very hard in Room 16.

Language Arts: We have started reading our next book, Island of the Blue Dolphins. Information on our last book report will be coming later this month.

Writer’s Workshop: We have been writing our creative narratives. We will be finishing these up and having a Writer’s Celebration in class on Friday. After that, we will begin writing poems. We will be creating a poetry booklet.

Math: We are starting our eighth unit. We have just finished up our unit on fractions and are moving on to studying decimals.

Social Studies: The class is working on a unit on the California Gold Rush. They are currently participating in a simulation where they have formed a mining team and are mining for Gold. We will have our Gold Rush Day on April 13th. I will be contacting the volunteers shortly.

Science: We have started our new unit on Environments. The students have planted sends in terrariums and are waiting to see what happens when they grow. We will be receiving isopods and beetles to add to our terrariums next week. We will be observing how they change the environment in our terrariums.

P.E.: On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the students have been enjoying their unit on track and field. They are also learning about effort and to do their best. They have been participating in Fitnessgram testing. For more information on P.E., feel free to check the P.E. newsletter on the Dilworth website staff page.
