October Newsletter

October 1, 2010

Dear Room 16 Parents/ Guardians,

The school year is off to a great start and it’s hard to believe it is already October! We have been working on many things in Room 16.

Language Arts: We are finishing up our unit on Journeys. We have been working on the reading strategies: summarizing, inference, and organization. We will soon begin a unit on the book In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson.

Math: We have started our second unit. We are currently working on estimation, addition, and subtraction. Shortly, we will be studying expressions and equations.

Social Studies: We are continuing our unit on California’s Geography. We are learning about the regions of California.

Science: We are continuing our unit on Solid Earth. We have been performing experiments on rocks to learn about their properties.

P.E.: The students are working tracking their fitness. Please remember that P.E. is on Tuesdays and Thursdays so students have good shoes for moving around.

Thank you for the donations for “Time for Kids” and “California Weekly.” If you have not donated, it’s not too late. Please send a check for both publications for $11 payable to Sabrina Horner. The students are enjoying working with these publications. Again, thank you for the donations.

Some Up Coming Events:

• Dilworth Walkaround is this Saturday from 1:00 p.m. -6:00 p.m. Please remember to have your student bring their permission slip with them to the Walkaround. Donation cards are due on October 18th. I look forward to seeing you there.

• Conferences start next week. They are from October 7th to October 15th. Please remember that school will be out at 1:00 p.m. for those days. I have sent home your conference letters with appointment times. Your student is welcome to attend the conference with you.

• October 21st is student picture day.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at school or via e-mail, at horner_sabrina@cusdk8.org. I look forward to seeing you at conferences.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Horner
